NORTH WEST EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
The North West Education Department employs around 26 000 educators. The strategygoing forward is one of commitment to improved quality and delivery of education.
The department plans to achieve this through capacitating educators and implementing new methods and technologies of education.

The Department sees the first group of educators completing the Advanced Certificate in Education not as guinea pigs, but pioneers that will change the face of educator development and the delivery of quality learning at schools.

Not only will the Department provide learning centres at schools, it will subsidise the full registration fee of the first intake of learners in 2004 and reward educators who complete the programme successfully.

The North West Education Department is a founder trustee of the ADP and is represented by the former M E C for education Mr. Z P Tolo as chairman and the Superintendent General of Education in the North West Province, Dr A M Karodia, as trustee.



THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR TECHNISCHE ZUSAMMENARBEIT (GTZ) GMBH
GTZ operates on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation
and Development and other funding organizations and implements technical co-operation activities in more than 130 countries.

GTZ’s Skills Development Strategy Initiative Support Programme is a development programme focused on supporting the development of a Skills Strategy and meeting the resultant challenges in this area.

A founder trustee of the ADP and strategic partner to the North West Department of Education, GTZ provides quality assurance to the ADP and is a permanent member of the ADP Board of Trustees.

Involvement with the ADP ranges from the provision of international expert advice and procurement of material and equipment, to financial support and networking with other
e-learning initiatives.


PARAGON DEVELOPMENT FORUM
Through its extensive national and international contact network, Paragon provides expert advice on matters related to e-Education, e-Learning and educator development.

Paragon Development Forum is a founder member of the ADP Education and Training Trust




SAP is a major player in the software application business, with particular interest in projects involving applied research in terms of social and
economic development.

Based on their involvement in the L³ project (Lifelong Learning project in Germany), which was designed to test the viability of e-learning, SAP has enormous experience in the blended and e-learning approach to education.

SAP is a founder trustee of the ADP and besides being represented on the ADP Board of Trustees, co-founder of SAP, Dr Hasso Plattner is a member of President Mbeki’s International Advisory Council on Information Society and Development.


North West University, Mafikeng Campus
The historically disadvantaged North West University, Mafikeng Campus has been faced with the challenge of becoming a viable, sought-after centre of educational excellence.

In response to this challenge as well as President Thabo Mbeki’s call fur future technological efforts to be

focused on the upgrading and up-skilling of educators to capacitate them to deliver quality learning, the University has initiated, in partnership with Government and private sector organisations, the Africa Drive Project.

North West University, Potchefstroom Campus
The North-West University, Potchefstroom campus joined the Mafekeng campus on the Africa Drive Project as part of their community service duty. Being part of a venture to upgrade teachers’ skills is specific part of the duty of the Faculty of Educational Sciences.
The Faculty is privileged to join this venture because the consequences of upgrading teacher’s skills is the delivering of better prepared learners to all walks of life. The Africa Drive Project is there fore very important to the North-West University, Potchefstroom campus. 

DUXBURY NETWORKING
Established in 1984.

Duxbury Networking is a specialist-networking distributor in the South African IT industry, offering services and expertise in key technology areas such as modems, ISDN, internetworking, remote access, voice and data integration, switches, wireless networking, content management, security and authentication.

Represented on the ADP Board of Trustees’ Technology Committee, Duxbury assists in the design and consulting of communications related issues as well as strategic direction.



 
eDEGREE
With a number of local and international academic institutions and major corporates as clients, eDegree develop, host and deliver e-learning programmes throughout Africa. Management and administration of the delivery process includes the remittance of e-learning material, responding to learner administrative enquiries as well as co-ordination of learner/lecturer communication.

Edegree has provided curriculum design and courseware development for the ADP, edited language and layout of course material, provided extensive instructional design and converted interactive e-learning content to meet customised education and training needs.


NETWORK APPLIANCE
Since its inception in 1992, Network Appliance Inc. has become a world leader in unified storage solutions for today’s data-intensive enterprise.
A pioneer in its field, Network Appliance storage solutions include specialized hardware, software and services that provide seamless storage management for open network environments.

Represented on the ADP Board of Trustees’ Technology Committee, Network Appliance is involved in developing the content distribution aspects of the project and also provides support to the other functional groups.

As a company that is not only in Africa for Africa but is committed to the principles of NEPAD, we regard the Africa Drive Project as a strategically empowering initiative that plays a major role in the skills upliftment of our communities.

BCS-NET

BCS-Net is a leading Black Economic Empowered e-Service Provider of outsourced ICT infrastructural services in Southern Africa. Its service solutions include Application Hosting Services, World Carrier Class Telecommunications Services, Internet Access Services and Office Automation Professional Services.

It is in this regard that Siemens Business Services has committed to the Africa Drive Project to provide the hosting facilities for IT applications and to deliver customized technology solutions that facilitate transfer of knowledge to learners.

 

Information Technology, Department of Finance, North West Province


The Information Technology Directorate in the Department of Finance of the North West Provincial Government is the custodian of the Provincial Network called WESTNET.

They are responsible for the creation, expansion and maintenance of the total Network. WESTNET consist of a Wide Area Network that stretches from Kuruman in the West to the Carousel in the East, currently 6000 users.

 

The ADP Schools are incorporated in WESTNET and are supported by the technicians of Information Technology.
