The Africa Drive Project will
more than support President Thabo Mbeki’s appeal to
upgrade the skills and qualifications of teachers in South
Africa. It
marks the advent of a new education and training era that
embraced a scientifically based, blended e-learning approach.
This will:
- support efforts to bridge the digital
divide through
the introduction of technology
into the education sector.
- train educators to improve the quality of
their teaching
in the fields of mathematics,
science, technology and
business.
- contribute to increased numbers of science,
mathematics,
technology and business
graduates who can then effectively
participate
in the economy - be it in
an entrepreneurial venture
or the
corporate world.
- create new business opportunities in the
education and
training sector - e.g. learning
materials, hosting
of technology,
development and maintenance
of
communication
infrastructures
etc.
- make learning accessible to disadvantaged
learners and
educators in remote areas.
- support the notion of open, flexible and
life-long learning.
